Pameran “Jogja Kota Revolusi (1945-1950)”

Pameran “Jogja Kota Revolusi (1945-1950)”

Read the rest of this entry

Hindu Times: Candi Ceto & Candi Sukuh

Hindu Times: Candi Ceto & Candi Sukuh

Ceto & Sukuh temple are ancient Hindu temples located in Karanganyar, Central Java, Indonesia. They were built around 15th century, few years before Majapahit‘s era was ended. Those andesite temples were built in a simple architecture, but they have a lot of reliefs and statues. Actually the buildings’ shape is a bit similar with Chichen Itza in Yucatan (Mexico). Ceto temple was firstly reported in 1842, while Sukuh temple had been reported since 1815. Both of them were started to be restorated in 1928. Read the rest of this entry

Tour de Solo

Tour de Solo

We visited Solo (Surakarta) yesterday just to get out of our daily tiring business. Jogja-Solo was about 1 hour trip by car. We spent half day in the town for traveling around these most popular places. :)

Keraton

Keraton, karaton, or kraton, originally created from the word ke-ratu-an, means the place where the queen/king lives. Keraton Solo (or Keraton Surakarta) lays on southern land of Solo city.

Along the tour around Keraton, we will be guided by a traditionally-dressed tour guide who will explain all about history of Keraton and king’s family. In some part of the building (especially on the sandy area), we’ll be asked to put off our sandals (while shoes are allowed to wear). Read the rest of this entry

Far-East Ambience

Far-East Ambience

last week I visited art show @ bentara budaya (next to TELKOM building, YK). It was collaborative show held for the commemoration of 50 years Indonesia-Japan bilateral affair. It was so new for me,, coz I’d never see anything like that kind of show. Ratih took me there on the afternoon (she’s student of Japan’s letter faculty).

when I arrived there the show had ran for couple hours, but it wasn’t too late cuz there were still a lot of show remaining. So many people were there,, maybe it was because of the small venue, so it seemed so crowd. The Indonesian & Japanese shows was played by turns, but anyone could join the show and play together with the dancers/performers.

First show I saw was ‘bon odori’ (盆踊り), Japanese dance performed by Indonesian student of Japan’s letter faculty, UGM. I think it’s closely alike with Indonesian ‘poco-poco’, which some of its movements are repeated and easy to follow. The dancers formed a circle than did some claps, jumpings, and other movements together. The female dancers wore ‘yukata’, Japanese traditional dress, and the males wore another kind of Japanese traditional dress (I don’t know the name). Read the rest of this entry
